Infertility Counseling in Chicago & Online

When building a family becomes more complicated than you imagined.

Infertility can change so much more than your plans for having a child. It can change how you experience your body, your relationships, your future, and even the passage of time.

You may find yourself navigating testing, treatment decisions, IVF, repeated disappointments, or the uncertainty of not knowing what comes next. You might be trying to hold onto hope while also protecting yourself from another difficult outcome.

Perhaps you are tired of thinking about fertility all the time. Or maybe you feel disconnected from people whose lives seem to be moving forward in ways you expected yours to.

Infertility can be a deeply personal experience, even when so much of it takes place in medical offices, conversations, and decisions with other people.

At Integrative Perspectives Counseling and Consulting, I offer infertility counseling in Chicago and online for individuals and couples navigating infertility, fertility treatment, and the many emotional experiences of family building.

When your body starts to feel unfamiliar

After testing, procedures, fertility medications, or repeated rounds of treatment, it can be difficult to feel at home in your body.

You may feel betrayed by your body, disconnected from it, or frustrated by the sense that it has become something to monitor, manage, or evaluate. Medical experiences can also leave you feeling unheard or uncertain about your own perceptions.

There may be grief for the ease you imagined, the pregnancy you hoped for, or the relationship with your body that you once had.

These experiences deserve attention.

Individual counseling can also provide space for your own experience, apart from the decisions and needs of others.

Couples

When you and your partner experience infertility differently

Couples don't always experience infertility in the same way. You may have different relationships with hope, risk, money, treatment, uncertainty, or the possibility of stopping.

One partner may want to pursue another option while the other feels depleted. One may want to talk while the other tries to keep daily life moving.

These differences can become painful, especially when both people are trying to protect something important.

Couples counseling can help you understand what is happening between you, including the hurt, fears, needs, and hopes that may be difficult to communicate.

What we may work with:

  • The grief and uncertainty of infertility

  • IVF, fertility treatment, and difficult decisions

  • Treatment fatigue, anxiety, and emotional exhaustion

  • Relationship strain, intimacy, and communication

  • Medical trauma and feeling dismissed or invalidated

  • Questions about family building, donor conception, or gestational carriers

  • The decision to pause, stop, or consider another path

A place to begin

You don't need to know whether you want another treatment cycle, have a decision to make, or be at a particular stage of infertility to begin counseling.

You may simply need room to understand what this experience has meant to you.

I work with individuals and couples. If you'd like to explore whether counseling may be a fit, I invite you to get in touch.
